Blume, absolute champion of Spain in 1949, retained the title for ten consecutive years. He also won the European Championship in 1957, the individual all-around competition, and dominated the three gymnastics competencies: parallel, vaulting horse and rings. Born in Barcelona, he is remembered for his perfect execution of the Christ (remaining still with the arms outstretched in a cross), passing into history as the inventor, although in reality he was not.
Joaquin Blume’s career was cut short in 1959 when the plane he was traveling in crashed; he died at the age of 25.
The rings, donated to the Museum by the Cencerrado family, were previously held in the Espai Pioners.
