Naochito Watanabe, Japan’s General Consul in Barcelona, and Susana Closa, manager of the Barcelona Sports Institute, welcomed the reception of the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020.
The reception was attended by representatives of Catalan federations, leaders of Catalan sports entities, coaches, athletes and press, among others.
In the course of the event, Mitsuru Nagata, a Japanese artist based in Barcelona, presented a demonstration of Sumi-e, a monochromatic drawing technique in black ink. Nagata wanted to bring the two Olympic cities closer together through his drawing by depicting a Maiko —Geisha’s apprentice— practising archery, in reference to the Barcelona 1992 Olympic cauldron lighting.
