“Tennis and the Olympic Games” exhibition opens. The ceremony was hosted by Stan Smith, President of the International Tennis Hall of Fame & Museum in the United States, and Maite Fandos, President of the Barcelona Olympic Foundation. Pedro Hernández, curator of the exhibition, was given the task of offering an insight into the history of tennis at the Olympic Games.
The ceremony was attended by representatives of tennis organisations, clubs and legendary figures, including Ivan Tibau, Secretary-General for Sport in Catalonia; Emilio Ablanedo, Central Government Deputy Representative in Catalonia; Jose Luís Escañuela, President of the Spanish Royal Tennis Federation; Albert Agustí, President of the 1899 Barcelona Royal Tennis Club; Joan Navarro, President of the Catalan Tennis Federation, and the players Albert Costa, Àlex Corretja, Jordi Arrese, Andreu Gimeno and Manuel Orantes, among others.

The sporting world expressed the shared loss of the passing of Nelson Mandela
Mandela, himself a huge sports fan, once said: “Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to inspire, it has the power to unite people in a way that little else does. It speaks to youth in a language they understand. Sport can create hope, where once there was only despair. It is more powerful than governments in breaking down racial barriers. It laughs in the face of all types of discrimination.”
Joan Antoni Samaranch Olympic and Sport Museum hosts sport and environment seminars

The representatives of the bodies on the board and members of the foundation Manuel Santos Gemma Gort, Carolina de la Calzada, Mariano Ruiz, Gonzalo Cristóbal, Juan Contreras, Antonio Olivares, Francisco Javier Jiménez, Paloma del Río, Alfonso Jiménez, Victoria Alonso and Pilar Calzado, were welcomed by Juli Pernas, Director of the Barcelona Olympic Foundation.

The José Higueras forum “Football and Tennis – Two Professional Sport Models”

Pedro Hernández, Professional Tennis Area Manager for the Royal Spanish Tennis Federation and a sport item collector has donated an original ticket to the Museu Olímpic i de l’Esport corresponding to the inauguration in 1929, of the Monjuïc Olympic Stadium on the occasion of the International Expo of Barcelona.
