Snowscape, the new refurbished museum space of the Olympic and Sports Museum

In recent years winter sports have been all the rage. Easy access to pistes, the attractions of the sport and its constant development are resulting in a big increase in the number of enthusiasts every year.

32 award-winners, including administrators, federations, sportspersons, coaches, clubs, sponsors… and among them, the Barcelona Olympic Foundation, for its work spreading sporting and Olympic values, and Pere Miró, who received the Olympic Order for his service as a member of the IOC.

INDESCAT has awarded the Empresa i Esport Prizes for Internationalisation, Partnership and Innovation in Products and Business Models, being held this year for the third time.

 

Skater Javier Fernández presented Marta Carranza, President of the Barcelona Olympic Foundation, the outfit from the ‘Peter Gunn’ programme which one fourth place in the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games.

On a lightning trip to Barcelona, Javier Fernández, current world skating champion and three times European champion, went to the Joan Antoni Samaranch Olympic and Sport Museum to present the outfit in person, which was made by Canadian designer Denis Pizzacalla, who participated in the Sochi Olympic Games.

 

Marta Carranza, president of the Barcelona Olympic Foundation and Commissioner for Sport for the Barcelona City Council, head of the Board of Trustees that includes Pere Miró, deputy director general of the CIO and director of the Olympic Charity.

The Barcelona Olympic Foundation Board is made up of the Barcelona City Council, the Spanish Olympic Committee, the State Administration (through the Higher Sports Council), the Catalonia Regional Government (through the Secretary General for Sport) and five individual members: His Excellency Mr Josep Miquel Abad, His Excellency Mr Romà Cuyàs, His Excellency Mr Josep Lluís Vilaseca, Ms Teresa Samaranch and Mr Pere Miró.

Juli Pernas, director of the Barcelona Olympic Foundation, presented a brief summary of J.A. Samaranch’s role as sports governor. He spoke of Samaranch’s drive and interest in launching Barcelona as a pioneering city in sport by hosting major sporting events such as the 1955 Mediterranean Games.

 

Physical Activity and Sports Sciences (CAFES) students from the Blanquerna Faculty of Psychology, Education and Sports Sciences in the Olympic Museum.

The students visited the Olympic Museum facilities after completing the “Management of the Olympic and Sport Museum” masterclass, presented by its director, Juli Pernas.

The Círculo Católico de Gracia gifted a Chapo-style pool table, dating from the first half of the 20th century, made from wood and slate, as well as other Chapo objects (chalk, balls and cues). Chapo is one of the most traditional games played on a billiard table.

Is played with three balls and five small cues that must fall. The table has four pockets in the corners. The top move, throwing five cues in a single match, is called “chapo”.

 

Dormity, a leading-edge company in the area of rest, has presented its ‘Dormity sport’ range to the Olympic Museum.

Argentinian Fernando Belasteguín, number one in the world padel ranking, together with David Sánchez, founder of Dormity and Joaquim Terán, president of the SES (Spanish Rest Society) presented this product line adapted to the rest requirements of each sportsperson.

 

Sixteen students from the 34th edition of the “General Training in Applied Sciences in Sport for Trainers” course visited the Olympic Museum.

The 34th edition of this training course for trainers has been developed through the Olympic Charity programme of the International Olympic Committee and thanks to organisation from the Sant Cugat High Performance Centre, in collaboration with the Barcelona INEFC Institute.
