The Olympic and Sports Museum has been the venue chosen by Jordi Hereu, mayor of Barcelona, to present the candidacy of Barcelona-Pyrenees as the host for the 2022 Winter Olympics.
Hereu has pointed out that Barcelona is an experienced city located right next to the Catalan Pyrenees, making the candidacy fully viable. The Pyrenees would host all the mountain events whereas the city of Barcelona would host the Olympic opening and closing ceremonies, and certain sports events such as skating, hockey, etc., making use of already existing facilities such as the Montjuïc Olympic Stadium and the Palau Sant Jordi.
If it won the bid in October 2015, Barcelona could become the only city in the world to have organised Winter and Summer Olympics.
