On the occasion of the America’s Cup in Barcelona, a delegation of international journalists visited the Olympic and Sports Museum Joan Antoni Samaranch to discover and revisit the history of the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games. The visit was guided by the museum’s director, Francesc Terrón, who shared with the attendees a deep insight into the Olympic legacy and its significance for the city.
Among the distinguished journalists in the delegation were Sabine Hartelt, a journalist from the German television network WDR, Susanne Sgrazzutti, a producer for the German newspaper Segel Reporter, and Carsten Kemmling, a sailing expert, former regatta competitor, and writer for the same publication.
Other notable figures from the world of sailing included Ida Castiglioni, former sailor, architect, and writer for Il Corriere della Sera and Il Giornale della Vela in Italy, as well as Michele Tognozzi, sailing expert and editor of the Italian magazine Fare Vela.
From the United States, Mark Reid, sailing expert and editor of Latitude 38, also attended, along with Jan Pehrson, a sailing expert and contributor to Scuttlebutt Sailing News and The Washington Post, and Karen Lile, journalist for Sail Sport Talk and recognized sailing specialist.
This meeting, had been possible with the support from Barcelona Turisme, highlighted the connection between Barcelona’s Olympic legacy and the impact of sailing, using the America’s Cup as a platform to draw international attention to the city’s sporting and cultural history.
