The family of Jordi Llopart, the legendary Spanish athlete and first Olympic medalist in athletics for Spain, has donated a collection of significant objects to the Olympic and Sports Museum Joan Antoni Samaranch. The items include his silver medal from the 1980 Moscow Olympics, his gold medal from the 1978 European Championships in Prague, and various pieces of his athletic gear.
Francesc Terrón, director of the Barcelona Olympic Foundation, expressed deep gratitude for this valuable contribution. The objects will be displayed in a temporary exhibition, giving visitors a unique opportunity to learn about the career of one of Spain’s most influential athletes.
Llopart, born in El Prat de Llobregat, made history with his silver medal in the 50 km race walk at the 1980 Moscow Olympics, and his gold medal in the 1978 European Championships. The donation honors his memory and highlights his lasting impact on global athletics.
Visitors will be able to view items such as the jersey worn by Llopart at the 1978 European Championships in Prague, as well as race numbers from the 1988 Seoul and 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, providing an immersive journey through his illustrious career and legacy as a pioneer in Spanish athletics.
