Joan Antoni Samaranch was president of the International Olympic Committee between 1980 and 2001, one of the great sporting landmarks of Barcelona, his native city. Through his role he in fact helped the Catalan capital win its bid for the 1992 Olympic Games. The rich patrimonial and documentary collection, donated to the Barcelona Olympic Foundation by his family, follows his career path as a leader in sports.
