David Escudé, President of the Barcelona Olympic Foundation and sports councillor of Barcelona City Council, and Pere Vilà, regional representative of Sport and Physical Activity in Barcelona and Catalonia Regions, opened the commemorative event held by the Barcelona Olympic Foundation (FBO) on the occasion of the 125th anniversary of the creation of the IOC.
We had the opportunity to discover by audiovisual means the background of the International Olympic Committee over these 125 years, as well as Pierre de Coubertin’s relationship with the city of Barcelona.
We then had the pleasure of attending a round table with Maria Teresa Samaranch, member of the International Skating Union (ISU) and member of the FBO board of trustees; Leandre Negre, former president of the International Hockey Federation (IHF); Isabel Fernández, Olympic champion and first vice-president of the EOC; and Jordi Sans, Olympic champion and director of the UFEC. Together with the moderator and journalist Joan Manuel Surroca, they explained the importance of sport in today’s society.
To finish the event, Alejandro Blanco, president of the Spanish Olympic Committee, reminded us of the importance of sport, Olympism and the values they entail.
